This alarm was bought after the previous alarm (a heat sensor only) failed to trigger after a lot of smoke came from a multi-function oven cooking on microwave too long. I was concerned that it might be over sensistive, but it has worked flawlessly ever since.And Mother-in-Law has been told not to microwave stuff when it says "Cook for 35 minutes at 180". She'll forget, but next time the alarm will scare the living daylights out of her.
